How to transfer your investment portfolio to Hapi?

Here we show you how to transfer your shares from another broker to Hapi.

Do you have shares at another broker and want to bring them to Hapi? You can, and we'll guide you through the process. And if one day you want to move your investments elsewhere, you can too: here we explain both directions, clearly and with no fine print.

Stocks and ETFs are offered by Hapi Securities LLC, member of FINRA/SIPC (CRD #311868), with custody through Apex Clearing Corporation.

Transferring your portfolio TO Hapi (incoming ACATS)

The transfer is done via ACATS, the standard system between brokers. It moves your whole shares in-kind, without selling them. In general, an in-kind transfer does not create a sale and may not be a taxable event, though this depends on your particular tax situation. Hapi does not provide tax advice; consult a tax professional for your specific case.

Step by step

  1. Gather your current broker's info: full name, account number, account type, list of shares and quantities (if partial), and the PDF of your account statement.

  2. Write to [email protected] saying you want to start an ACATS transfer to Hapi.

  3. We fill out the ACATS document for you.

  4. Sign it and send it back. That's how we start.

  5. Wait. The ACATS process usually takes 5 to 10 business days, though it may take longer depending on the delivering broker. We'll let you know when your shares are available in your Hapi portfolio.

Things to keep in mind

  • Cost: receiving your securities at Hapi is $0 (incoming ACATS). Your current broker might charge you an outgoing fee.

  • Fractional shares: ACATS only moves whole shares. Fractions are not transferable and are illiquid outside the Hapi platform; it's best to sell (liquidate) them or do a partial transfer of your whole shares.

Transferring your portfolio OUT of Hapi (outgoing ACATS and DTC)

Your investments are yours: you can also move them to another broker. This applies subject to the conditions below. Broadly:

  • Via ACATS (outgoing): you start it from your new broker, not from Hapi. Hapi charges $75 for an outgoing ACATS transfer (receiving securities at Hapi is still $0). The other institution may charge its own fees. It usually takes several business days. Review all charges in the official Hapi fee schedule.

  • Via DTC: some securities can also be moved via the DTC system to another institution. The cost and timeframe of a DTC transfer are confirmed by our support team based on your case; write to [email protected] before starting one.

  • Fractional shares: are not transferable via ACATS or DTC. You must sell (liquidate) them before transferring or closing your account.

We're not pushing you to leave — we just want you to know that both entering and leaving are your decision, and that the information is clear upfront.

What about crypto?

Crypto is separate and you move it yourself from the app: Transfer crypto → Deposit. Note that crypto is offered by Hapi Crypto, LLC and Bakkt Crypto Solutions, LLC (Bakkt is not a broker-dealer or FINRA member), not Hapi Securities. Crypto is not a security and is not covered by SIPC or FDIC.
