How to buy and sell bonds

At Hapi, bonds are traded with limit orders: you set the maximum price you're willing to pay or the minimum you're willing to accept. The order only executes if the market reaches that price or better.

Bond orders are good for the day only. If they don't execute before market close (4:00 p.m. ET), they're canceled automatically.

  • To buy: Bonds → Trade → Buy → enter limit price and quantity → confirm.

  • To sell: Portfolio → Trade → Sell.

The minimum purchase varies by bond. You can see the applicable minimum in each bond's detail before trading. Some bonds allow fractional positions. Note that fractional bond positions may be illiquid outside the Hapi platform, may not be transferable in-kind to another institution, and may need to be liquidated (sold) before closing your account.

Important: a limit order does not guarantee execution. It only executes if there's a counterparty willing to trade at the price you set or better; otherwise it's canceled at close. This means your order might not execute when you want.

Hapi Securities seeks to obtain the best possible execution on your bond trades, in accordance with its best execution policy.

Bond transactions are subject to fees; see "What are the fees for bonds?".
