At Hapi you don't pay a broker commission to buy or sell stocks and ETFs. There are other costs, though: the clearing house fee charged by our clearing firm, regulatory fees on sales, the crypto commission, deposit and withdrawal fees, and a few one-off charges. Here they all are, with examples.
Before you confirm an order, a deposit, or a withdrawal, the app shows you the exact amount you'll pay. That figure is always the one that counts.

Clearing house fee
Hapi doesn't charge a commission on your orders. We work with Apex Clearing Corporation, the firm that custodies your assets, clears and settles every order. For that service, Apex charges a fixed amount per order: the clearing house fee.
It's fixed: it doesn't change with the number of shares or the order amount,
Order type | Standard account | Hapi Prime |
Whole shares, regular hours | USD 0.10 | USD 0.05 |
Fractional shares, regular hours | USD 0.15 | USD 0.05 |
Any order in 24/5 Trading (outside regular hours) | USD 2.99 | USD 0.05 |
Example (illustrative only): if you buy 10 whole shares of a company, you pay USD 0.10 in total, not USD 0.10 per share. If you buy USD 20 of a fractional share, you pay USD 0.15.
Regular market hours are 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. New York time. What counts is when your order executes, not when you place it.
Regulatory fees (sales only)
When you sell, two fees set by U.S. regulators are added. Hapi doesn't set them: Apex collects them and passes them on to the SEC and FINRA. In your history they appear together as Tran Fee.
Fee | Amount in effect in 2026 | How it's calculated |
SEC fee | USD 0.0000206 × amount sold (USD 20.60 per USD 1,000,000) | On the sale amount, rounded up to the next cent. In effect since April 4, 2026. |
FINRA TAF | USD 0.000195 per share sold | Rounded to the cent, capped at USD 9.79 per order. |
Example (illustrative only): you sell 100 whole shares at USD 50 each (USD 5,000 total).
SEC fee: 5,000 × 0.0000206 = USD 0.103, rounded up to USD 0.11.
FINRA TAF: 100 × 0.000195 = USD 0.0195, rounded up to USD 0.02.
Clearing house fee: USD 0.10 (USD 0.05 with Prime).
Total cost of that sale: USD 0.23 (USD 0.18 with Prime).
The SEC and FINRA change these fees by law or regulation, sometimes more than once a year, without prior notice from Hapi.
ADRs (foreign company shares)
An ADR is a certificate representing shares of a company outside the U.S. Some ADRs carry a custody fee charged by that ADR's depositary bank, not by Hapi.
It's charged if you hold the ADR in your portfolio on the record date, and it's deducted from your account on the process date.
It's a per-share amount that depends on each ADR, set by its custodian bank, and it can vary between issuers.
In your history it appears as JRL: extra charges for service fees on some ADRs.
Some ADR orders may carry an additional minimum charge. You can see the exact amount for each ADR on your order's confirmation screen or in the official fee schedule.
Example
Vale S.A. is a Brazilian company that trades on the NYSE as an ADR (VALE); each ADR represents one common share of Vale held by its depositary bank.
Suppose you hold 100 VALE ADRs in your portfolio on the record date, and the depositary bank sets a custody fee of USD 0.03 per ADR (the actual amount varies by issuer).
Custody fee (JRL): 100 × USD 0.03 = USD 3.00, deducted from your account on the process date.
If you also bought or sold those 100 ADRs during regular hours, the normal clearing house fee is added (USD 0.10 per order, USD 0.05 with Prime), and on a sale, the SEC/FINRA fees, just like with any other stock.
The custody fee is set by each ADR's depositary bank, not by Hapi, and it can change between issuers. You can see the exact amount on your order's confirmation screen or in the official fee schedule.
Cryptocurrencies
Your crypto orders are executed and custodied by Bakkt Crypto, which charges a commission on the amount of each purchase or sale. That commission covers the transaction and the custody. Hapi doesn't charge an additional broker commission on crypto.
The commission starts at 1% and decreases based on how much you've traded in crypto (buys plus sells) over the last 30 days. The scale applies to all accounts; with Prime, the tiers drop faster.
Volume traded in the last 30 days | Standard account | Hapi Prime |
Less than USD 1,000 | 1.00% | 1.00% |
USD 1,000 to 5,000 | 0.95% | 0.90% |
USD 5,000 to 10,000 | 0.90% | 0.80% |
USD 10,000 to 25,000 | 0.80% | 0.70% |
USD 25,000 to 50,000 | 0.70% | 0.60% |
USD 50,000 to 100,000 | 0.60% | 0.50% |
USD 100,000 to 1,000,000 | 0.50% | 0.40% |
USD 1,000,000 to 5,000,000 | 0.40% | 0.30% |
USD 5,000,000 to 10,000,000 | 0.30% | 0.20% |
More than USD 10,000,000 | 0.20% | 0.20% |
Example (illustrative only): if you buy USD 100 of a crypto at the base 1% commission, you pay USD 1 in commission: USD 101 in total.
The price you see in the app is a reference price. The price your order actually executes at can vary slightly depending on the market at that moment.
Gas fee: when you deposit or withdraw crypto you pay the blockchain network's cost. It's variable, depends on the network and the moment, and it isn't charged by Hapi.
Hapi licenses its software to Bakkt Crypto and receives a share of Bakkt's revenue from these operations.
Crypto isn't available in Panama or Paraguay. In Spain you can buy, sell, and withdraw crypto, but not deposit it.
About cryptocurrencies: crypto services are offered through Hapi Crypto, LLC and Bakkt Crypto Solutions, LLC, not Hapi Securities LLC. Cryptocurrencies are not securities, are not registered with the SEC or FINRA, and are not covered by SIPC or FDIC protection.
Hapi Prime
Prime is a USD 9.99-a-month membership. On costs, it gives you:
A USD 0.05 clearing house fee per order, in regular hours and in 24/5 Trading.
Lower tiers on the crypto commission.
No maintenance fee.
Its other benefits, like real-time prices and unlimited alerts, are covered in the article What is Hapi Prime?
How it's charged:
If you subscribe from the app, the charge is processed by Google Play (Android) or the App Store (iOS) and renews automatically. The store may add taxes depending on your country, so the total can be higher than USD 9.99. To cancel, go to your Google Play or App Store subscriptions at least 24 hours before renewal.
If you subscribe from the web, it's deducted from your available Hapi balance every 30 days. To cancel, go to your account settings on the web.
Deposits
The fee depends on the method and the country. You'll always see it in the app before confirming the deposit.

Card example (illustrative only): if you deposit USD 100, you pay USD 3.85. If you deposit USD 50, 3.85% would be USD 1.93, so you pay the USD 2.99 minimum instead.

In Ecuador, ISD is the Impuesto a la Salida de Divisas (Currency Exit Tax). It's an Ecuadorian tax, not a Hapi fee.
Brazil, El Salvador, Spain, the U.S., Guatemala, Honduras, Panama, Paraguay, and Uruguay have card, Airtm, ACH, and wire. Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago have ACH and wire.
Note: Your first deposit can take up to one additional business day to show once your account is validated with an official document.

If your withdrawal fails (for example, due to incorrect bank details), you can correct the details and try again. If it's still failing after 3 attempts or 15 days, the money returns to your available balance, with the withdrawal fee deducted.
If a withdrawal wire is returned, an additional charge from Apex and the banks involved may apply. You can see the exact current amount on your withdrawal screen or in the official fee schedule.
If you receive the money in local currency, the exchange rate is set by the payment provider or your bank at that time, not by Hapi.
Card chargebacks
A chargeback happens when you or your bank dispute a card deposit you made to Hapi and ask for it to be reversed.
How much it costs: USD 10 per disputed deposit.
When it's charged: when your card's issuing bank opens a chargeback on a deposit you made to Hapi.
Why it exists: the card payment processor charges Hapi this amount to handle each dispute, and that cost is passed on to the account where the deposit was made.
While the dispute is open, we may pause deposits and withdrawals on your account and deduct the disputed amount from your balance, because your bank has already refunded that money to your card.
How to avoid it: if we let you know a chargeback was opened and you did make the deposit, contact your bank and ask them to withdraw it. Banks sometimes open a dispute without the cardholder knowing. And if you don't recognize a Hapi charge on your card, write to us before opening a dispute: we'll look into it with you.
Transferring your portfolio to another broker
Outbound ACAT (to another U.S. broker): USD 75 per transfer, full or partial, regardless of how many assets it includes. Charged by Apex.
Inbound ACAT (from another U.S. broker to Hapi): no cost at Hapi. Your originating broker may charge you.
Outbound DTC (to an international broker with a U.S. custodian): USD 25 per asset (CUSIP) transferred.
Fractional shares can't be transferred.
Maintenance fee (Account Maintenance fee)
We used to call it an inactivity fee. It's USD 4.99 a month, and it's only charged if all three conditions are met at once:
You're not a Prime member.
You have assets or cash in your account, but less than USD 100 in total.
You've gone 60 days or more without logging into the app or the web.
To avoid it, any one of these is enough:
Log into the app or the web at least once every 60 days. You don't need to trade or deposit.
Keep USD 100 or more in your account.
Subscribe to Prime.
If your account is at USD 0 (no assets or cash), it's not charged. If you don't have cash available, the charge stays pending and is deducted from your next deposit or sale. If it builds up over several months, we may sell part of your assets to cover it.
Statements and other services
Electronic statements and confirmations are free.
If your email bounces repeatedly, regulation requires us to switch to sending documents on paper, and Apex charges USD 5 per statement and USD 2 per order confirmation. To avoid this, keep your email up to date.
Participating in voluntary corporate actions (elections) is free.
Margin
Only applies if you have an active margin account.
Margin is a loan: you pay interest on the margin amount you use. It's calculated daily and charged monthly.
Margin balance used | Annual rate |
Up to USD 5,000 | 8.00% |
USD 5,000 to 25,000 | 7.25% |
USD 25,000 to 100,000 | 6.25% |
USD 100,000 to 500,000 | 5.75% |
USD 500,000 to 1,000,000 | 5.60% |
More than USD 1,000,000 | 5.40% |
Daily interest = amount used × annual rate ÷ 360. Deposits, sales, and dividends are applied first to reduce your margin balance. Rates can change when the Federal Reserve's benchmark rate changes.
Example (illustrative only): if you use USD 2,000 of margin for 30 days, you pay 2,000 × 8% ÷ 360 × 30 = USD 13.33.
Using margin carries significant risk: your losses can exceed your initial investment, and your securities can be liquidated without prior notice if you don't maintain the required margin. Margin is not suitable for all investors. Review the margin risk disclosure before using it.
Taxes and withholding
These aren't Hapi fees, but they affect what you receive:
Dividends: the U.S. withholds 30% from non-residents. If your country has a tax treaty with the U.S., the W-8BEN form can reduce that withholding (for example, 15% in Chile and 10% in Mexico). The W-8BEN is completed when you open your account and lasts 3 years. You renew it in Menu → Settings → W-8BEN.
Backup withholding: in certain regulatory cases, for example if your W-8BEN isn't current, Apex may withhold 24% of a sale. You'll see it as "W8-BEN Tax".
PTPs: when you sell an interest in a Publicly Traded Partnership, 10% of the sale amount is withheld, under section 1446(f) of the U.S. tax code.
Form 1042-S: Apex issues this each year with the taxes withheld from you. You'll find it in Portfolio → Reports.
Hapi doesn't provide tax or legal advice. For your tax filing, consult an accountant or tax advisor in your country.
What costs you nothing
