Why does my account have a negative balance?

Discover why your buying power may be negative on Hapi and how to fix it.

A negative balance in your account is due to a cash debit balance on your account. This can happen for any of these reasons:

  1. You bought more than you have: During times of high volatility, a purchase order could end up costing more than expected, resulting in a negative balance in your buying power. However, this is very uncommon, as Hapi is likely to ask you to place a limit order before the purchase to prevent the order from costing more than the available buying power.

  2. A fee was applied to your account: Different charges may be deducted from your buying power, which could lead to a negative balance if you do not have enough funds. To learn more about applicable charges, you can consult our: Fee Schedule

  3. Rejcted deposit: If an international withdrawal is rejected, our Clearing Firm (APEX) charges a $30 return fee, which is deducted from your buying power.

If you find yourself with a negative balance in your buying power, be sure to resolve it as soon as possible to maintain a positive balance. Otherwise, Hapi may partially liquidate assets in your portfolio to resolve it.
